3D Print Cost Calculator
Turn slicer weight and workshop expenses into a customer quote.
What goes into a 3D printing quote?
Start with the slicer’s filament weight before purge and the price per kilogram. Include supports in the weight if the slicer reports them separately. Add electricity, labor, packaging, and other job expenses before applying your markup.
Worked example for a 100 g print
A 1 kg spool that costs $20 works out to $0.02 per gram. A 100 g print with an estimated 10 g of purge costs $2.20 in filament. At 150 W for four hours and $0.20 per kWh, electricity adds $0.12. With $3 in labor and $1 in packaging, the job costs $6.32. A 25% markup brings the quote to $7.90.
Estimate electricity from a bill
Divide the bill’s energy charges by the kWh used, then multiply that rate by your printer’s average power in kilowatts and the job time in hours. The calculator can read a bill photo or PDF on your device and lets you review the values before applying them.
Markup and profit margin
Markup is calculated from your cost. Profit margin is calculated from your selling price. In the example above, the $1.58 difference between cost and price is a 25% markup and a 20% margin before any other expenses.
